SECRET REFUGE

Dear brethren :
When there is nothing, and nothing else to grasp on to, and despair abound you and me.
What is one to do? There is no place to hide on earth or on the sea, and the despair hounds you, one must find refuge within himself even if it is for a moment, away from this cruel melancholy world.
Refuge can be found in religion, work, love, or wanton habits of this world.
Refuge can also be found in the sweet countenance of an animal, a stranger, or even in the company of a wise beggar who has no coins of the realm, but he welcomes you with open arms to his garden of refuge for all.
So seek your refuge and tell no one, it's your secret and only your refuge from despair.

My Earthy Shadow.

  My Earthy Shadow. I cast the longest shadow of myself against the setting sun on a bed of green grass, surrounded by flowers, and thorns, but there is no shelter for the homeless man. Well, this is the south far away from the freezing north, and I am happy to have mud on the torn soles of my shoes and I thank kind strangers for their alms.
